Summary:
As a Health Information Manager, you will play a critical role in managing the health information systems and processes within our acute care health system.
You will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and security of patient health records, while maintaining compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Your expertise in health information management will contribute to the effective functioning of our organization and support the delivery of high-quality healthcare services.
Responsibilities:
Oversee Health Information Management Systems:
Manage the implementation, maintenance, and optimization of health information management systems, including electronic health record (EHR) systems, coding systems, and document management systems.
Ensure Data Integrity:
Develop and enforce policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy, completeness, and security of patient health records.
Monitor and evaluate data quality and implement corrective actions as needed.
Compliance and Regulations:
Stay up-to-date with all relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards related to health information management, including HIPAA and Meaningful Use requirements.
Ensure compliance and provide guidance to staff regarding privacy, security, and confidentiality of health information.
Staff Management:
Supervise and train health information management staff, including medical coders, health information technicians, and data entry personnel.
Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing support and professional development opportunities.
Health Information Analysis:
Utilize health information systems to generate reports, analyze trends, and provide meaningful insights to support decision-making and improve patient care outcomes.
Release of Information:
Oversee the process of releasing patient health information in compliance with legal and organizational requirements, including responding to requests from patients, healthcare providers, and other authorized entities.
Interdepartmental Collaboration:
Collaborate with various departments, such as medical staff, nursing, billing, and IT, to ensure smooth integration of health information management processes and systems.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities for process improvement, efficiency gains, and enhanced data accuracy.
Implement best practices and quality improvement initiatives to optimize health information management operations.
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:
Develop and maintain robust disaster recovery and business continuity plans for health information management systems and processes.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Health Informatics, or a related field.
Master's degree preferred.
Certified Health Information Manager (CHIM) or Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential is strongly preferred.
Solid understanding of health information management principles, regulations, and industry best practices.
Proficiency in working with electronic health record (EHR) systems and health information management software.
Strong knowledge of medical coding systems, such as ICD-10 and CPT.
Excellent leadership and team management skills.
Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational and analytical abilities.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information in a professional manner.
Familiarity with data privacy and security regulations, such as HIPAA.
